The Humane Society of Livingston County provides pet adoption services, lost and found assistance, and education to the community on humane treatment, responsible pet ownership, and overpopulation of companion animals.
As an independent charitable organization 501(c)(3), our name reflects our geographic location only. We receive no local, state, or federal funding for the services we provide. Eaton County Humane Society is registered, inspected, and authorized annually to operate as an animal shelter by the State of Michigan. We are not a county agency and we are NOT supported by tax dollars. We are NOT affiliated with any national animal welfare organization. All of our funding comes from donations from the public and local business sponsors. All donations are tax-deductible. The bottom line is we need YOUR help to save lives!
We have been helping people help animals since 1956. By increasing the literacy of the humane treatment of animals, promoting responsible pet ownership and serving as a care facility for lost and unwanted pets. In 2015, Harbor Humane Society officially took on the responsibility and the duties of a no-kill animal shelter. We proudly maintain the highest standards of care for each individual animal that comes through our door and place animals that are medically and behaviorally healthy or treatable, according to nationally recognized practices, in to loving homes via adoption, foster, or transfer. By not having a time limit for the homeless animals temporarily in our care, we are able to match the animal with the perfect family, ensuring the family and animal make a connection. A lasting one.
We are the Humane Society of St. Clair County SNAP . SNAP stands for Spay, Neuter, Adopt and Protect, which is our mission. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization; we rely on public donations to allow us to maintain our goals and mission. HSSCC/SNAP has developed out of a community wide need to help keep an unwanted animal population under control. With this in mind, all volunteers helped build our beautiful facility, where we offer affordable spay/neuter services to the public. We also operate a foster-based rescue program, finding wonderful homes for unwanted and homeless pets.
For over 120 years, the Humane Society has served as a safety-net for relinquished, stray, and abandoned animals and ensures that each animal is treated with compassion and given the best quality of care.
We are a small shelter with a dedicated staff and a strong volunteer base. As the only open-access shelter in the region, we do not turn any animals away. Our doors are always open.
We are able to care for the animals that come through our doors each year by working hard and making the most of our resources. With community support, we are able to continue striving toward our mission, taking in more animals that may have no other hope for a second chance, and creating their happy endings.
The services we provide our shelter pets include shelter, feeding, veterinary care, spaying and neutering, vaccinations, grooming, temperament testing, kennel maintenance, cruelty prevention and much more.
The goal of the Humane Society's Adoption Program is to find a permanent lifelong home far the animals in our care. We are not interested in adopting to people who want "a live toy" for their children or to those people who capriciously, on a whim, decide "it would be fun" to have a pet.
Each animal in our care is special to us. Therefore, our concern for these animals is deep and our commitment to them extend even beyond the time they leave our doors.
With this in mind, we go to great lengths to match our animals with the best guardians we can find. If we feel that an adoption applicant is not the best match for an animal, we reserve the right to deny that application and will then provide that person with adoption counseling based on our many years of working in the animal sheltering field.
Adopting a pet is a serious act, one that should not be taken lightly. Animals are sentient beings and have the right to loving, caring homes where all of their needs are conscientiously met for the extent of their lifetime. The Lehigh County Humane Society takes its role seriously and will knowingly settle for nothing less.
We’re not just a shelter. We have been helping animals and their people for 130 years! Our mission is to fight animal cruelty, help animals in need and advocate for their well-being.
What makes us really unique is our unparalleled knowledge and compassion for animals, as well as our quality of care. We treat each animal like they’re our own pets until we find their perfect forever home—which gives us the opportunity to help the next animal that needs our help.
We stand for maximizing the quality of life of a pet and enhancing the lives of pet owners. Our board, staff and volunteers are passionate about our mission and about the animals in our care.
The Toledo area community has reason to be proud of the heritage of our Humane Society. Founded on February 14, 1884 as one of the oldest humane societies in the United States, our original purpose was to prevent cruelty and provide refuge for both animals and children. To this day, we investigate cruelty to animals and provide homeless, abused and abandoned animals with protection and safety.
