Houston has an animal welfare crisis. In some neighborhoods, unwanted dogs and cats roam the streets, parks and bayous.(1) BARC, the city's animal control agency, estimates we have over one million stray animals.(2) In addition, animal welfare groups regularly encounter abused or neglected animals and the Houston SPCA reports over 7,000 cruelty cases every year. Join us on February 11, 2017 to kick off the first annual Big Fix Houston. Our goal is to educate pet owners and spay and neuter, vaccinate, and microchip as many animals as possible. We will focus our efforts on areas of Houston that historically have had high concentrations of stray dogs and cats. Volunteers will do community outreach and sign up pets for free services which will be provided by BARC, Harris County Animal Control, Emancipet and others.
